Crystal Palace are closing in on the signing of Borna Sosa from Ajax.
Ajax have given the left-back permission to travel to the UK ahead of a proposed move and he is set to undergo a medical on Monday.
The Athletic reported on Friday that Ajax had received an offer from Crystal Palace for the 27-year-old, who made 20 appearances on loan at Torino last season. The Premier League club also made a proposal to the Croatia international, as they look to add depth and competition for Tyrick Mitchell.
Mitchell has been Palace’s first-choice left back since breaking into the team in 2021. Ben Chilwell spent the second half of the 2024-25 season on loan at Selhurst Park, making 11 appearances and just one Premier League start, after falling out of favour with Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca.
Sosa has made 25 appearances for Ajax since joining the club from Stuttgart in 2023, having made 115 appearances across a five-year spell with the German club following his move from Dinamo Zagreb. He was a key member of the Croatia side which reached the semi-finals of the World Cup in 2022, starting five of their six matches.
Palace are awaiting UEFA’s decision on whether they will be allowed to play in the Europa League next term. They qualified by winning the FA Cup but their participation was put in question by club shareholders Eagle Football also owning a majority stake in Ligue 1 side Lyon, who also qualified for next season’s competition. The delay relates to UEFA waiting for a decision from French football authorities on whether Lyon will be relegated to Ligue 2 due to financial irregularities, in which scenario they will forfeit their Europa League place.
Eagle Football controlling owner John Textor agreed to sell their 43 per cent stake in Palace to Woody Johnson, the owner of the NFL’s New York Jets, last month. The deal is yet to be ratified by the Premier League.
Sosa would become Palace’s second signing of the summer, following the arrival of Argentinian international goalkeeper Walter Benitez on a free transfer.
