MAX AARONS is one step closer to making his Ibrox bow as he’s now learned which number he’ll wear during his Rangers stint.

The Bournemouth defender has moved to Glasgow to link up with his former mentor Russell Martin for the season.

He became the manager’s first signing since taking over as Rangers boss and the club’s second summer recruit, following Lyall Cameron’s arrival from Dundee.

But with Aarons coming in, that could mean the departure of another first team star.

The news of his signing sparked questions about James Tavernier‘s future, with many left wondering if the loanee could take the skipper’s right-back spot.

Tavernier was deployed at centre-back for parts of last season and was ousted by the likes of Dujon Sterling and Neraysho Kasanwirjo during the campaign.

For now, though, it looks like the captain will remain an important player in the team.

But given Aarons has been handed the number three shirt for the season, the same can’t be said for team-mate on the other side, Ridvan Yilmaz.

That’s the number Yilmaz has worn since he joined the Ibrox club from Besiktas in 2022.

But it appears as if he has lost it to Aarons after the new signing was spotted with the number on his shorts in training.

Aarons is primarily a right-back but has operated on the opposite side on several occasions throughout his career.

The new number could be a hint that Martin may use him as a left-back instead, while Yilmaz could be heading for the exit door.

The Turkish defender has been continuously linked with clubs back in his homeland since he moved to Scotland three years ago.

He’s been a regular target for all the big Istanbul clubs, including his old team Besiktas.

It’s been quiet on the transfer front regarding his future in recent weeks but the latest decision on shirt numbers could be a major hint of more news to come this summer.

Yilmaz still has two years left on his current Ibrox deal.
