Manchester United vs Everton highlights and reaction as Fernandes and Mount score in draw
Manchester United brought their pre-season tour of the United States to a close with a 2-2 draw against Everton at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Sunday night.
Securing the point they needed to win the Premier League Summer Series, United took the lead with 19 minutes on the clock when Bruno Fernandes dispatched a well-taken penalty after Amad was fouled inside the box.
Despite having chances to increase their lead, United were pegged back shortly before half-time when Everton pounced on some poor play by Manuel Ugarte and clawed themselves via a smart finish from Iliman Ndiaye.
Following a collection of changes, United got their noses back in front with just over 20 minutes to go when substitute Mason Mount turned inside the box and curled a fantastic effort beyond Toffees goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
However, United were pegged back for a second time just six minutes later when a bizarre own-goal from Ayden Heaven crept into the bottom corner and out of the reach of United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir.
United, who handed a debut to Bryan Mbeumo, did not have as much composure about them as they did in their opening two tour games, meaning there is still plenty of room for improvement.

REPORT: Mbeumo showed why United bought him with two touches
There is another pot to add to the Bangkok Century Cup, Snapdragon Cup and Defining Education Challenge Cup for Manchester United: the Premier League Summer Series trophy.
They are not attractions that merit plinths in the club museum or will get supporters flocking to the Old Trafford tour. United did not beat Everton in Atlanta but this has been one of their most buoyant tours in years.
This was the least accomplished of United’s performances in the States. The only post-match activity Ruben Amorim must have relished would have been the on-pitch training session as opposed to a trophy presentation.
Even without a new No.9, United have rallied eight goals across three games. They have avoided casualties in defence, a department usually hit by injury crises, but their midfield is thin.

There was no trpphy lift, recognising the competiton is fairly meaningless. They are now parading it around the stadium.

It’s all over at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium and United have won the Premier League Summer Series following a 2-2 draw with Everton.
United led twice, scoring either side of half-time through Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount, but they were pegged back on both occasions.
Nevertheless, seven points from three games is enough to see them end their US tour by winning a trophy.

United need more midfield options
It’s been fashionable to write ‘five things we learnt’ from games for years when we don’t actually learn anything. We still know Bayindir is poor, Dalot should only fill in on the left when absolutely necessary and that United need a new centre forward.
Midfield is still an area of interest for United. Mainoo, Ugarte, Casemiro and Collyer is not going to cut it in a season, even with a lighter workload.

Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring via the penalty spot with 19 minutes on the clock, but Everton responded shortly before half-time through Iliman Ndiaye.

Fernandes switched off momentarily there and it was enough. Ugarte didn’t cover himself in glory trying to dribble out of the United third there and Everton were ruthless with one touch to cross and one touch to finish.
Everton have been competitive and had some moments before they equalised. United have not had as much control as they did in the first halves against Bournemouth and West Ham.

Nearly 40 minutes in and Mbeumo can be pleased with his maiden appearance for United. He has used the ball impressively, taken up impressive positions and had two or three goalscoring opportunities.
Cunha has shown the odd flicker of frustration. He’s done okay but this isn’t his role and it shouldn’t be going forward.

Mbeumo has made a really positive start. His awareness of teammates has been excellent and he is clicking quickly with Mbeumo and Cunha.
Amorim really ought to have trialled a strikerless system in April or May but evidently didn’t feel he had the tools at his disposal. It is different now after United invested £133.5m in the squad and they have been slick so far.
