Postecoglou’s post-match interview went viral on social media
Tottenham lost the north London derby against Arsenal and Ange Postecoglou’s post-match interview has got fans talking.
Arsenal were without Declan Rice due to suspension and Martin Odegaard to injury but came out on top at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium thanks to a header from Gabriel Magalhaes in the second-half.
The fiery encounter which saw the Premier League record for first-half yellow cards equalled means Spurs have just four points from their opening four fixtures, their worst start to a season since 2015.
Set-pieces proved to be their Achilles heel again under Postecoglou with three of the last four goals conceded against the Gunners coming from corners.
Despite their poor start to the season, the Australian manager is adamant he will deliver success this season and stopped a Sky Sports reporter’s line of questioning after the match.
It was put to Postecoglou that he usually wins a trophy during his second season in charge of a club and the Spurs manager insisted he ALWAYS wins a trophy in his second year and it would be no different at Spurs who are trophyless since 2008.
“Yeah, absolutely,” he said. “Am I going to answer the question or are you going to keep asking it?
“No, absolutely. I’ll correct myself. I don’t usually win things, I always win things in my second year.
“Nothing has changed.”
Asked whether he was confident he could deliver that success with his Spurs’ side, he said: “Well I just said it now.
“I don’t say things unless I believe them.”
His comments and manner of his post-match interview has been widely criticised on social media.

Postecoglou has previously come under fire for failing to sort Tottenham’s deficiencies at set-pieces but insisted he ‘doesn’t care’ about his side’s poor record.
He said: “I know, I know, for some reason people think I don’t care about set pieces and it’s a narrative that you can keep going on for ages and ages.
“I understand that. Like I said, we work on them all the time like we do for every other team. You know that they’re a threat, as I said, for the most part, we handled them really well today, but we switched off for one and we paid a price and you learn from that and you move on.
“But it is what it is, you know, it’s my burden to carry mate and I’m happy to do that. It’s not like, like I’ve always said, for me, there’s a bigger picture that’s at play here that’s much more important than the finer details of us getting to where we want to. For us, the way forward is to try to turn the football we’re playing now into something meaningful.”

Another Premier League record has been matched this weekend.
Tottenham and Arsenal equalled Premier League history in the first half of the north London derby.
The score was 0-0 at half time, despite Arsenal having a host of chances.
However, Gabriel Martinelli missed a key chance to put the Gunners ahead, with Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario in top form.
Ange Postecoglou’s side had opportunities of their own, with Brennan Johnson firing over, and had comfortable control over possession.
But the game threatened to boil over shortly before the break following a foul from Jurrien Timber on Spurs’ Pedro Porro.
Timber appeared to lift his left boot and connect with the ankle of Porro as he attempted to shield the ball, but the Dutchman was facing away from his opponent.
Referee Jarred Gillett awarded a yellow card to Timber, with Vicario also getting booked for grabbing Timber’s shirt with both hands in the aftermath.
That incident almost sparked a mass brawl, with both sets of players crowding around each other in an attempt to break the pair up.
The players received two of seven cautions in what was a bad-tempered first half at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
That equalled a Premier League record for the most yellow cards in the first half of a match, as per OptaJoe.

Five of the cautions were awarded to Spurs players, with Destiny Udogie, Rodrigo Bentancur, Micky van de Ven and Dejan Kulusevski all receiving yellow cards.
And William Saliba joined Timber in the book for Arsenal after delaying the restart.
Both Ange Postecoglou and Mikel Arteta decided against making substitutions at half-time, with Arsenal midfielder Jorginho then becoming the eighth player to be booked for holding on 49 minutes.
Arsenal then took the lead on 68 minutes when centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes rose highest for a corner to power a header beyond Vicario in the Spurs goal.
The goal put Arsenal on course to win their ninth Premier League away match in 10 attempts in 2024.
And Arteta’s side held on to secure a 1-0 win and move into second place in the Premier League table.

Ange Postecoglou has been branded a hypocrite for his comments.
Fans have branded Ange Postecoglou a hypocrite for his comments after Tottenham’s defeat to Chelsea.
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium bore witness to a fiery London derby on Monday evening which truly had it all.
The hosts looked to be cruising after Dejan Kulusevski opened the scoring inside six minutes, but a reckless challenge from Cristian Romero in the 33rd minute turned the tie on its head.
After a lengthy VAR check, the Argentine defender was shown his marching orders by referee Michael Oliver, while Cole Palmer converted the spot-kick.
Things only got worse for Tottenham after the break, as Destiny Udogie picked up a second booking and the north Londoners were reduced to nine men, adopting a fascinatingly high line to help defend against Chelsea.
After a valiant defensive effort, Tottenham were eventually undone in the 75th minute, with Nicolas Jackson going on to score his first hat-trick in royal blue.
Speaking after the game, Postecoglou was gracious in defeat and praised for his refreshing outlook on refereeing decisions.
“Premier League managers should just manage their football clubs,” the Australian said in his post-match press conference.
“I’ve never and I never will talk to a referee about the rules of the game. I was taught that you grow up and you respect the officials.
“Their authority is just constantly getting diminished. I grew up afraid of referees. They would be like policemen. Nowadays I guess we talk back to policemen as well. I’m old-school. I’m from a bygone era. I just love the purity of the game.”
However, fans have since branded the 58-year-old a hypocrite after he was booked in the first half for leaving his technical area on too many occasions.
Rival fans have suggested that Postecoglou was actually shown a yellow card because he argued with Oliver’s decision, claiming that his comments did not match up with his behaviour on the touchline.
Replying to a video of the manager’s post-match interview, one fan tweeted: “This is after getting booked by the referee for not accepting his decision.”
While another wrote: “He’s just being hypocritical about it.”
However, others have jumped to the defence of the former Celtic boss, claiming that he simply left his technical area and was not arguing with officials.

Two players have been axed.
Ange Postecolglou has brutally axed two players from his Tottenham Hotspur squad for the league phase of the UEFA Europa League.
Spurs had to submit their squad to UEFA by the end of Wednesday and had to cut two stars in order to comply with various regulations.
Postecologlou had to leave out Spanish left-back Sergio Reguilon and English full-back Djed Spence due to restrictions.
A new squad list can be submitted with a handful of permitted changes if Spurs advance past the league phase where they will face Qarabag, Ferencvaros, AZ Alkmaar, Galatasaray, Roma, Rangers, Hoffenheim and Elfsborg.
UEFA squads differ to Premier League squads as they include main squad and a B-list. The latter can only include players under the age of 21 who have spent at least two years of the club, meaning summer signings Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall had to be registered on the main list.
When it comes to the 25-man main squad, UEFA rules also state that “as a minimum, eight of those 25 places are reserved exclusively for ‘locally trained players’ and no club may have more than four ‘association-trained players’ listed among those eight places.
“If a club has fewer than eight locally trained players in their squad, then the maximum number of players on List A is reduced accordingly.”
There are two types of locally-trained player. One is ‘club-trained players’, who were on the club’s books for three entire seasons or 36 months between the ages of 15 and 21.

The other is ‘association-trained players’, who were on another club’s books in the same association for three entire seasons or 36 months between the ages of 15 and 21.
Spurs have only two of the four required club-trained players in Brandon Austin and Alfie Whiteman, so were forced to reduce their squad to 23 players.
They also had seven association-trained players, of which only four can go in their own category.
The other three had to be placed into the main group but there was only one spot left in that group.
Spence has made two substitute appearances in the Premier League this season while Reguilon has not featured in a matchday squad after spending last season on loan at Manchester United and Brentford.
Tottenham’s squad is as follows:
Goalkeeper: Guglielmo Vicario, Fraser Forster, Brandon Austin, Alfie Whiteman
Defenders: Radu Drăgușin, Destiny Udogie, Cristian Romero, Pedro Porro, Ben Davies, Micky van de Ven
Midfielders: Yves Bissouma, James Maddison, Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, Dejan Kulusevski, Brennan Johnson, Wilson Odobert, Pape Sarr, Rodrigo Bentancur
Forwards: Son Heung-min, Richarlison, Timo Werner

Spurs suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Man City, who climbed above Arsenal to the top of the Premier League ahead of the last day of the season.
Two fans in the home end were ejected from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for what they did when Erling Haaland opened the scoring.
And with the hosts trailing by one goal, Son Heung-min squandered a huge chance in the 85th minute as Arsenal fans all said the same thing.
After the match, Postecoglou, who angrily confronted a fan during the game, hit out at his own team and said the foundations at the club are ‘really fragile’ in a damning assessment.
The Australian gaffer also gave a blunt evaluation about his side’s bruising defeat when he spoke to BBC Sport.
“Yeah disappointment I guess, you know. We lost. Tight game. Some big moments. And they took them… we didn’t,” he explained.

Postecoglou added: “Yeah I thought that was the summary of the game unless somebody saw it differently… thats how I saw it.”
Asked where his side could have been better, the Spurs boss replied with a spiky answer: “Taking the big moments. I mean that’s pretty much it.”
On the atmosphere inside the ground, he said: “It was a game of football.”
To which the interviewer replied: “That’ll do. Cheers, Ange.”
Postecoglou was clearly frustrated by Spurs’ defeat to Man City, which ended their Champions League hopes.
And they could miss out on Europa League football as Newcastle United and Chelsea could still chase them down.
Spurs end their campaign at Sheffield United while Newcastle United and Chelsea have two league games remaining.
