Newcastle United issue official Tino Livramento update after he missed the Champions League win over Union SG.
The Magpies feared the worst when Livramento was stretchered off during Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Arsenal at St James’ Park. Livramento previously spent 13 months out with an ACL injury when he was at Southampton.
Since joining Newcastle for £32million in the summer of 2023, Livramento has established himself as a key player in the defence and made his England debut.
In recent months, the 22-year-old has starred at left-back but against the Gunners moved back over to right-back. Seventy-five minutes into the game, Livramento went down with a knee issue.
At the time, United were leading 1-0 through Nick Woltemade’s first-half opener but after Livramento withdrew, Mikel Merino equalised for Mikel Arteta’s side before Gabriel scored a 96th-minute winner.
Eddie Howe issues ‘positive’ update on Tino Livramento
Howe was unable to provide an update immediately after the game and refrained from commenting further ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League win over Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.
“We’re still awaiting feedback on the extent of his injury,” said Howe. “No, I think I’m better off waiting before giving any indication on that, because I think that could be a mistake. So, yeah, let’s wait and see in the next couple of days.”
Livramento didn’t travel to Brussels and was replaced by Kieran Trippier in the starting XI.
And Trippier is set to retain his place for the foreseeable future, with Howe revealing after the match that Livramento will be out for between six to eight weeks.
That will see Livramento miss at least another eight club matches and both the October and November international breaks.
Howe said: “Tino, we think, will be out roughly around six to eight weeks, which is probably positive from where we were after the game thinking it might be months.
“We’re probably looking, not this international break, but maybe the next one he could be back. So certainly more positive than we initially thought.”

In addition to Livramento, Newcastle are also without new signings Yoane Wissa and Jacob Ramsey, though the hope is both players will return for the visit to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, October 18.
Providing an update on both players last week, Howe said: “Yoane’s here, and he’s receiving treatment, no operation needed. Yeah, I think we’re looking at the other side of the international break. We hope he can be fit and available for that first game.
“It was [a] huge [blow]. I mean, you go into the new season with your squad and you feel you’ve got your squad sort of settled and you’ve got a plan. And then, of course, we didn’t even see Yoane. He’s come back injured. And that was a difficult one, having outlaid the money that we have.
“We knew that Yoane was Premier League ready, as it were. You know, he knows the league inside and out and has scored goals in it. But I think, look, it happened.
“We have to deal with it. I think, touch wood, it’s not a long-term injury. We get through the next few games and then he’ll be back.”
“Jacob’s on the grass, working hard, building his fitness back up. The plan, I think, was it would be the first game after the international break that’s ahead of us. If it’s any earlier than that, then of course he’s ahead of schedule.”
