Sources: Nottingham Forest Consider Postecoglou Future, ‘World-Class’ Boss Eyed
Ange Postecoglou’s Nottingham Forest future is in doubt after failing to win any of his first six games, GMS understands. The 60-year-old does still retain support, but pressure is growing.
Postecoglou was the direct choice of owner Evangelos Marinakis, but another change is not ruled in the coming days or weeks with Newcastle United this weekend viewed as an important game to show improvement.
Forest sources could not offer categorical assurances on Postecoglou’s position just 24 days into his tenure, even though it’s clear there is a will for the Greek-Australian to succeed.

Some Forest supporters sang, ‘You’re getting sacked in the morning’ after the 3-2 Europa League home defeat to Midtjylland has triggered deep alarm behind the scenes.
“It’s a valid assumption in modern football that there is always a manager that is under pressure,” said Postecoglou after that game. “That’s just part and parcel of what we do, but I don’t think that way. Put it this way: I knew I was getting sacked at Tottenham three or four months before I did, but that didn’t stop me from winning something. It doesn’t enter my head.”
As with the hiring of Postecoglou, Marinakis will again be the primary decision maker, although Forest’s global head of football, Edu Gaspar will also provide input.
Forest’s fixtures don’t get any easier after the October international break with Chelsea, Porto, Bournemouth and Manchester United all to come.
It was unthinkable when Postecoglou signed that he wouldn’t get a reunion against Spurs on December 13, but results and, as importantly, performances, must improve significantly or another change could yet be made.
Forerst, and Marianakis in particular, still want to make it work with Postecoglou, who was hired for his attacking style of play as well as his CV. But the Forest owner is not afraid to be cutthroat if he feels Postecoglou is not working.
Prior to hiring Postecoglou, Fulham’s Marco Silva, Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, and Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner were all considered. There is also an appreciation for US national team boss Mauricio Pochettino, who has been described as ‘world-class’, although it’s almost certain the former Spurs and Chelsea boss won’t leave his position until after the 2026 World Cup.
