Rangers are in the hunt for a new manager, and with Steven Gerrard rejecting the chance to join them, they’ll be desperately searching for an alternative.
GIVEMESPORT sources confirmed on Saturday evening that Gerrard has opted against making the move to Ibrox after deciding the timing wasn’t quite right for his return to the club. A full agreement was almost reached for Gerrard to rejoin the club, but he’s now removed himself from the process as Rangers look to find a replacement for Russell Martin, who was recently relieved of his duties.
With Rangers’ next game in the Scottish Premiership just under a week away, a home fixture against Dundee United, the Ibrox outfit will be working behind the scenes to try and find the right replacement. Gerrard is now out of the picture, but there are undoubtedly managers out there who would jump at the chance of joining the club.
Rangers Should Hire Muscat Over Rohl
GIVEMESPORT sources have also confirmed that both Kevin Muscat and Danny Rohl were early contenders for the vacant Rangers job when Martin was initially sacked. Some reports have suggested that Rohl could be the front-runner, but the Ibrox outfit should be looking to do all they can to bring Muscat to the club.
The 52-year-old, described as ‘astounding’, might not have a lot of pedigree when it comes to management in Europe, but he knows what’s required to represent the club. Muscat spent some time during his playing career at Rangers, and he’s also proved to be a winner during his managerial career.
Muscat has won a host of trophies during his time with Shanghai Port, Yokohama Marinos, and Melbourne Victory, and he could be time for him to test himself in Europe. Although Rohl is a great coach in his own right, he has a lack of experience as a manager, which could prove costly if he joined a club the size of Rangers.
The Ibrox outfit need to get a move on in their pursuit of a Martin replacement, and it could be time for them to bite the bullet and bring Muscat back to the club. With Gerrard ruling himself out, the Rangers supporters will be getting frustrated with the lack of progress in appointing a new manager.
