Over the last few days, it looked like a large section of Rangers fans were convinced that Kevin Muscat was the solution to the club’s problems and would help them go past Celtic in the title race. He did have a pretty strong record in management, having delivered silverware in China, Australia and Japan. But would it have worked in Scotland? Well, it looks like we are not going to find that out anytime soon.
That is because Muscat has become the latest manager to turn down the job. It began with reports emerging that Sean Dyche was not interested, followed by Steven Gerrard and Danny Rohl rejecting the chance. Now, the Australian joins that quickly growing list of managers.
It remains to be seen who the Rangers turn their attention to next. On the other hand, there seems to be some insight into why Muscat turned down the opportunity to return to his former club.
As reported by Ben Jacobs, Muscat had second thoughts on his fit within the recruitment model. Although Rangers sources insist that the Australian wishing to finish the Chinese Super League season presented a stumbling block, he wanted more control in the market if he joined.
Real reason Kevin Muscat rejected Rangers, Celtic fans laugh
Also, it is believed that Muscat had made it clear from the start that he wanted to see out the Chinese league season. So, why would present a stumbling block now?
One thing is very clear though, the Rangers are having a very tough time when it comes to attracting managers. Let’s see if that changes anytime soon.
Also, was this the reason previous managers turned the job down as well? One certainly has to wonder that. And also, how many more candidates are left in this race to become the Ibrox boss?
‘Laughing stock’ – Rangers fans react as Kevin Muscat deal collapses
Rangers fans have reacted to the Kevin Muscat deal collapsing, as Celtic supporters have been left laughing once again.
Let’s be honest, this was a terrible weekend for Celtic, as they lost 2-0 against Dundee FC, allowing Hearts to stay five points clear at the top of the table. But you can always bank on the Rangers to lift the mood of the Hoops supporters in situations like this, and that is exactly what has happened. After Steven Gerrard and Danny Rohl, a third proposed managerial appointment has collapsed.
Where does it end? One definitely has to question that. With Kevin Muscat now off the table as well, it is hard to see where they go from here.
Rangers fans have done tremendously well to convince themselves that bringing in Muscat would solve their problems. Who will be the next manager that they do that with?
Well, we are not sure. There are no managers who seem to be close to the job at the moment. At least, there are no such reports at the moment.
‘Laughing stock’ – Rangers fans react as Kevin Muscat deal collapses
It looks like Rangers fans are not happy with the situation and that is exactly what you would expect to be, very honest. One wrote: “Laughing stock down here – I live in Kent.”
Another added: “We are the laughing stock of Scottish football right now.”
Who will get the Rangers’ job? It is hard to even come up with a guess at this point in time. Sean Dyche is out. Gerrard is out. Rohl is out. Muscat is out. And it does not look like Derek McInnes would be interested in it either. Things have gotten bad for the Ibrox club in the past as well, but this is truly unprecedented.
Well, it looks like it is Hearts that Celtic need to be worried about this season, not the Rangers. And there are a lot of things that the Hoops need to take care of at this moment. They have lost a ton of quality and never really brought in players with similar abilities, or even close to it.
