Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has provided an astonishing assessment of his side’s 2-1 defeat at home against Aston Villa, which pushed them into the relegation zone.
The Whites went into the break leading the game through a fortuitous goal from Lukas Nmecha. However, they looked solid and stood up against a very good Aston Villa side.
However, Leeds struggled to create chances in the second half, and Aston Villa took their chances as Morgan Rogers scored a brace to help the away side leave Elland Road with three points in their bag.
Leeds are now in the relegation zone after a run of five defeats in six, and some of Farke’s substitutions are breaking players. However, the manager seemed content with the level of his team’s performance.
Daniel Farke makes a ridiculous Leeds claim
Farke believes Leeds are back to the performance levels they were producing at the start of the season, and feels that they deserved something from the game.
He conceded that his side are conceding too many goals. But insisted that he was happy with the performance, where his side dominated Aston Villa in parts of the game.
The Leeds boss did concede that fans have every right to be unhappy after a defeat, and any other reaction from the home supporters would have been unnatural.
“Performance-wise, we’ve turned back to what we want to be. We dominated many periods against a very good side. We should’ve taken some points from this game. We are not back to our best, we can still improve, but at the end we are just disappointed we did not get any points”, Farke said on BBC’s Match of the Day.
“To concede two goals is not good. As good as we are attacking down the left side at the moment, we concede too many goals. We concede so quickly straight after the restart.
“Over the course of 38 games, you have ups and downs. It happens sometimes at this level. Performance-wise, I was happy. At the moment, we are in a period where things are going against us.
“Of course, the fans are unhappy and disappointed once we lose games. I don’t want them to have a different reaction. I want them to feel like the world is falling apart when we lose a game; otherwise, you can’t be a Leeds United supporter.
“I’m just fully focused on the performance. If we perform like this today, we’ll win many more points.”
Farke is sleepwalking towards getting sacked
Daniel Farke is under real pressure, and some of his words after the defeat against Aston Villa are not going to help his case.
His stock among the Leeds fans is at an all-time low, and the run of results is not going to stand him in good stead with owners who have bigger ambitions for the club.
If Farke is happy following a home defeat against Aston Villa, then his time is probably up at Elland Road. His side have lost five of their last six and are set to face Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool in the next three league games.
Leeds are in real trouble and are in the relegation zone ahead of an unforgiving run of games during the winter period.
At this rate, Farke is sleepwalking towards getting sacked as he doesn’t feel there are too many problems in his team at the moment.
