Rangers dealt blow as transfer target dubbed one of current side’s ‘greatest talents’ signs fairytale contract

The Norwegian midfielder has been on Danny Rohl’s radar since he came to Ibrox in October.
Rangers transfer target Jens Hjerto-Dahl has committed his future to Tromso IL until 2029.
After failing to acquire the 20-year old in the January transfer window, Danny Rohl was looking to sign Hjerto-Dahl in the summer to help bolster the Light Blues’ midfield options. The Norwegian maestro has attracted interest from across Europe from his performances in the Eliteserien, but now looks to be staying put for the foreseeable.
It was always going to be an uphill task for Rangers to take Hjerto-Dahl off the hands of Tromso, the club he supported growing up that he has now represented for over a decade. In a club statement announcing the contract renewal, the club described the youngster as one of their ‘greatest talents’, while their Sporting Director is delighted to keep him on for another four years.
The club statement read: “He is one of us. Jens Hjertø-Dahl extends his contract with Tromsø IL and continues his adventure with us. What great news on a Friday! Jens Hjertø-Dahl has chosen to extend his contract with us and is signing 4 new years.
“Jens is a real Tromsø boy and has long been one of our greatest talents. He has gone through all the ranks in Tromsø IL since he was little and now he signs another long-term contract with the club that extends until 2029. At only 20 years old, he has already played almost 100 games for the A-team, as well as several nice goals. In 2025, he helped the club win a bronze medal in the series.
“Now, he is ready to contribute to the 2026 season, both in the Eliteserien, the Norwegian Championship and out in Europe. The main character himself is very happy that a new contract has been signed and is ready for the coming year. We are looking forward to this year’s season getting underway and are so happy that we are bringing Jens Hjertø-Dahl with us.”
Norwegian ace has ‘faith’ for the future
The young midfielder stated he can’t wait to begin his new chapter at the club and hopes to bring the club more success in the next four years. Hjerto-Dahl said: “I have great faith in the work we do here at TIL. Very proud to represent the city and the club in my heart, and I look forward to creating new moments at the stadium again with you.”
Tromso Sporting Director, Lars Petter Andressen added: “We are very happy and proud that Jens has signed a new 4-year contract. With this, he says how happy he is at the club and how much faith he has in everything that will happen in the future.”
At 6’ 4”, Hjerto-Dahl had the potential to be an Ibrox midfield powerhouse, who also has an eye for goal, however Rohl must now look elsewhere for reinforcements in the summer. The Light Blues were able to add more depth in the middle of the park in January, through the signing of Sturm Graz’ Tochi Chukwuani.
