- Aston Villa Handed Major Boost Ahead of Crucial Forest Clash
Aston Villa have received a huge boost ahead of their UEFA Europa League semi-final second leg against Nottingham Forest, with captain John McGinn expected to return for the decisive showdown at Villa Park.
McGinn missed Villa’s recent Premier League defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, raising concerns among supporters, but the Scottish midfielder has now returned to training and looks set to be available for Thursday night’s high-stakes encounter.
However, Unai Emery’s side will still be without Amadou Onana after the midfielder suffered an injury during the first leg defeat. Onana also missed the Spurs game and has not recovered in time for the return fixture.
Villa will additionally be unable to call upon Ross Barkley and Alysson, as both players were left out of the club’s European squad list.
Speaking ahead of the match, Emery delivered a positive update on McGinn’s condition.
“He trained normally and if he is not changing something, he is going to be available for tomorrow,” Emery said during Wednesday’s pre-match press conference.
With a place in the Europa League final on the line, Villa fans will be hoping McGinn’s return can inspire a memorable night under the lights at Villa Park.
