Aston Villa are targeting attacking reinforcements this summer and have reportedly identified Bologna winger Jonathan Rowe as a key option ahead of next season.
Unai Emery is already planning for another campaign competing at the top end of the Premier League and in the Champions League, with Villa’s recruitment team closely monitoring Rowe following an impressive breakthrough season in Italy.
The 23-year-old endured a difficult start after joining Bologna from Marseille last summer, but he has since emerged as one of Serie A’s most dangerous wide forwards. His pace, direct running and creativity have made him a standout performer during the second half of the campaign.
Rowe has registered eight goals and four assists across all competitions this season, with several of his best displays coming in Europe. One of the most eye-catching moments arrived during Bologna’s Europa League clash against Aston Villa in April, when the England attacker scored a stunning curling effort that reportedly caught Emery’s attention.
Villa are believed to admire the winger’s profile and view him as a player capable of thriving in Emery’s fast-transition attacking system. The Spaniard has previously praised Rowe’s development and versatility, further fuelling speculation over a potential move to Villa Park.
Bologna, however, are reluctant to lose one of their most valuable assets. The Italian side signed Rowe for around €19.5million and tied him to a long-term contract running until 2029. Despite that, missing out on European qualification could place the club under financial pressure this summer.
Premier League rivals Chelsea are also said to be monitoring the situation, meaning Villa could face strong competition for his signature.
Rowe is reportedly open to returning to England as he pushes for a senior international breakthrough, and Villa believe he could add another explosive dimension to their attack next season.
