Celtics’ Trade Hopes Surge After Insider Reports NBA Team Refuses To Part With Top Player For Giannis Antetokounmpo
An NBA insider reported on Sunday that a team possibly in the running for Giannis Antetokounmpo is currently reluctant to trade its star player.
The Celtics could be one of the few teams in contention to trade for Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo this offseason. They may have received promising news that a potential rival team for Antetokounmpo might not pursue him after all.
There have been swirling rumors over the past few months that the Cavaliers might consider trading their star forward Evan Mobley for Giannis Antetokounmpo if Cleveland fails to reach the NBA Finals this season, but that might not be the case.
On Sunday, Joe Vardon from The Athletic reported that he spoke with two NBA sources who stated that the Cavs have no plans to trade Mobley at this time, despite Cleveland being down three games to none against the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference finals.
“Otherwise, you’re looking at something drastic like trading Evan Mobley for Giannis Antetokounmpo — though two league sources say Cleveland has shown no interest in that move as of now,” Vardon wrote. If the Cavaliers aren’t planning to trade Mobley for Antetokounmpo, that’s excellent news for Boston. .
Mobley is one of the NBA’s brightest young talents and isn’t even 25 yet. He could be a crucial asset that the Bucks might consider in exchange for Antetokounmpo; however, if the Cavs are unwilling to let him go, they wouldn’t have many other trade options. The only other significant player might be guard Donovan Mitchell, who will be turning 30 next year, and it’s likely the Bucks would pass on him.
