Jack Grealish’s latest social media post has gone viral after the on-loan Everton winger appeared to throw shade at his parent club in the wake of Manchester City’s 2-1 loss to Brighton on Sunday afternoon. Under David Moyes, Everton now have an exciting side to showcase at their shiny new home on the Bramley-Moore Dock. Iliman Ndiaye has been a standout attacking threat since his arrival last summer, while the additions of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Grealish have further strengthened the Toffees’ forward line.
After an opening weekend defeat to Leeds United, Everton have bounced back with three straight wins in all competitions, heading into the first international break sitting fifth in the table. Grealish, clearly relishing life at his new club, wasted little time in posting a pointed dig on social media after Man City’s loss to Brighton – a defeat that left his parent club languishing in 13th. He wrote (see below):
“Feels so good to finally play three games in a row.”
The post was later deleted from Grealish’s account, but not before it sparked astonishment among fans online. “Shading Man City?” one X user asked, while another added: “Shading City when you’re on a loan spell is wild.” Elsewhere, a third remarked: “Grealish for Man City is the best example of a player being held as a prisoner I can think of. What a footballer he is when given freedom,” as a fourth concluded:
“You guys caged him. Now his real form is out, [Pep] Guardiola was the problem all along.”
The 29-year-old had started five consecutive games for City and England between August and September last year, but never managed more than two in a row for the rest of the campaign.
From January onwards, his involvement dwindled even further – he started just one Premier League match, a 2-0 win over Leicester in which he found the net. At Everton, Grealish is rediscovering the confidence and swagger that defined his time at Aston Villa – and his resurgence couldn’t be better timed, with the World Cup taking place next summer.

Although he has yet to be named in any of Thomas Tuchel’s England squads, there will almost certainly be growing clamour for his inclusion if he maintains this level of form, much like the public push that surrounded his place at Euro 2020.
