Rangers are keen on a deal to sign striker Jamie Vardy after he left Leicester City at the end of his contract, according to the Daily Mail.
The Glasgow side have been busy in the transfer market already this summer since appointing Russell Martin as their new manager, with the arrivals of Max Aarons, Lyall Cameron, Joe Rothwell and Emmanuel Fernandez already confirmed.
But a new striker is seen as a priority at Ibrox this summer amid question marks over the future of Danilo, Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane, which has led the club to take a look at the former Premier League champion.
Rangers Want to Sign Vardy
Veteran is a free agent
Vardy, who is widely regarded as a Leicester and Premier League legend after scoring 145 times in the top-flight for the Foxes, is now a free agent after leaving the King Power Stadium after 13 years at the club following their relegation the Championship.
Now Rangers are eyeing a sensational swoop to take him to Glasgow as part of Martin’s revolution, in what could prove to be a real coup for the side.
It’s unclear if the player would be open to a move to Rangers, and it’s believed that several clubs are showing an interest in signing the 38-year-old, who is expected to take his time about deciding on what his next step will be.
| Jamie Vardy’s 2024/25 Premier League statistics | |
|---|---|
| Appearances | 35 |
| Minutes Played | 2,840 |
| Goals | 9 |
| Assists | 4 |
| Shots per 90 | 1.7 |
| Key Passes per 90 | 0.5 |
Rangers are keen on strengthening their forward line amid reports that Morocco international Igamane is set to move to Ligue 1 with Lille after just one season, after a sensational maiden campaign in Europe where he netted 16 goals.
There is also a belief that top-scorer Dessers, who has scored 50 goals in his two seasons with the club could move on amid interest from AEK Athens. The Nigeria international has come under criticism from fans for missing a number of chances in big games, and the club may see this summer as the perfect chance to cash in.
Vardy would provide a great option to come in, although there would likely be question marks over his age and ability today rather than what he is best known for.
