Aston Villa have reportedly emerged as one of the clubs interested in signing a prolific European striker this summer, with Benfica prepared to lower their asking price for Vangelis Pavlidis.
According to reports in Portugal, Villa and Tottenham Hotspur are both monitoring the forward as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new campaign. While the player’s contract includes a €100 million release clause, Benfica are said to be willing to negotiate a deal worth around €40 million.
That figure would still represent a healthy profit for the Portuguese giants, who signed the striker from AZ Alkmaar for €18 million in 2024.
The 27-year-old has enjoyed an outstanding spell in Portugal and continued his impressive form during the 2025/26 season. He finished the campaign with 30 goals and six assists in 53 appearances across all competitions, establishing himself as one of Europe’s most reliable finishers.
Villa’s interest is understandable given the uncertainty surrounding their forward line. Tammy Abraham has been linked with a move away from Villa Park, while Ollie Watkins is entering the later stages of his career, making another attacking addition a sensible option for Unai Emery.
Tottenham are also believed to be in the market for a new striker after fitness concerns over Dominic Solanke and uncertainty surrounding their current attacking plans.
The opportunity to sign a proven goalscorer for less than half of his release clause has naturally attracted interest from several clubs.
However, Aston Villa could hold an important advantage in the race. With Champions League football returning to Villa Park, Emery’s side may be able to offer the platform the striker is looking for as he considers the next step in his career.
