Everton have proven to be a tough nut to crack this season and memories of their victory at St James’ Park in May remain large in the minds of those on Tyneside. Aaron Ramsdale
There has been a lot of debate on whether Howe should pick Nick Pope or Ramsdale this weekend. Pope’s errors on Tuesday night may force Howe into changing his goalkeeper.
Tino Livramento
Livramento’s fitness will need to be taken into account, but if he is deemed fit enough to start, then surely he must play? The Magpies looked a much better team, particularly in attack, with the former Saints man back at right-back.
Malick Thiaw
Thiaw has been very good in recent weeks and was sensational against Erling Haaland last weekend.
Fabian Schar
Schar and Thiaw were brilliant against Manchester City and interrupting their partnership could be a costly error.
Lewis Hall
Hall’s return to the starting XI last weekend was a breath of fresh air and allowed Howe’s side to play on the front-foot. He will be vital again this weekend.
Bruno Guimaraes
Newcastle United need to end their dire record away from home. Guimaraes must put in another captain’s performance this weekend if they want to finally secure a win on the road.
Sandro Tonali
Everton’s midfield could be depleted by injury at the weekend – giving Tonali the perfect platform to star and repeat the brilliant performance he put in against Manchester City at the weekend.

Joelinton didn’t feature at all in France in midweek. He should be fully rested ahead of this weekend’s trip to Merseyside and will have a key role to play if Newcastle United want to impose their game onto their hosts.

Whilst Murphy didn’t enjoy his best night in Marseille, Anthony Elanga has yet to show why he should displace the former Norwich City man in the starting XI.
