Fabrizio Romano Shares Contract Update on Sandro Tonali at Newcastle

Newcastle United love Sandro Tonali after an impressive spell with the club, but Fabrizio Romano, writing in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter, has confirmed that he’s not aware of any negotiations over a new contract at the moment.
Tonali made the move to St James’ Park in 2023, joining from Serie A side for Juventus on a five-year deal. Just a few months later, it was confirmed that Tonali was being investigated for illegal betting activity, and he was later banned from playing for 10 months, subsequently missing the remainder of the 2023/2024 campaign.
After returning to action, Tonali has quickly become a key player for Eddie Howe, and is arguably one of their most important in the middle of the park. The Italian international made his return in August last year, helping the Magpies qualify for the Champions League while also playing a crucial role in the North East club lifting the Carabao Cup.

Newcastle are clearly not in a rush to tie Tonali down to a new contract, and he doesn’t appear to be in a rush to head through the exit door. Tonali’s current contract doesn’t expire for another three years, so the Magpies aren’t in any danger of losing him immediately, but it would be a smart idea for Newcastle to enter talks at some point over the next year.
Tonali has been receiving plenty of praise in recent weeks after an impressive start to the 2025/2026 season with Newcastle. Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes recently labelled Tonali as the best Premier League midfielder, ahead of the likes of Moises Caicedo and Declan Rice, and he is seemingly going from strength to strength in the heart of Newcastle’s midfield.
Extending the former Juventus star’s contract will likely become a priority for the Magpies soon, but it’s not at the top of the worries as it stands.

Leeds United are among several Premier League clubs considering a move for Ireland star Troy Parrott, according to talkSPORT.
The Elland Road side, along with Wolves, are reportedly ready to bring the AZ Alkmaar striker back to the Premier League, just over a year after Parrott departed Tottenham for the Eredivisie club.
Parrott has been in scintillating form in recent weeks, scoring five goals to propel Ireland into the second round of World Cup qualifiers, including netting a hat-trick against Portugal.
The ‘exceptional’ 23-year-old forward, who joined AZ in the summer of 2024, is under contract until June 2029 in the Netherlands.
Leeds Eyeing Move for Troy Parrott
According to talkSPORT, Parrott’s stock has skyrocketed following an impressive November international break, with Leeds and Wolves among clubs keen on signing him.
Wolves were reportedly interested in Parrott last summer, but were put off by AZ’s asking price worth in excess of £20m.
As GIVEMESPORT revealed exclusively, AZ value Parrott at around €35m (£31m) ahead of the market reopening in January and remain relaxed about the forward’s future at the club.
Parrott has been in exceptional form for club and country this term, scoring 19 goals in as many appearances and providing two assists.
He scores a goal every 87 minutes in Eredivisie this season, with seven in eight appearances, and ranks joint-fourth in the goalscoring charts.
Leeds Need a New Striker
Leeds have been disappointing up front this season, netting just 11 goals in 12 league games, with striker trio Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Lukas Nmecha and Joel Piroe scoring four times between them.
With Nmecha netting three of those, it is safe to say Leeds could benefit from a new striker in January, also considering their recent run of results.
Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Aston Villa saw Daniel Farke’s side drop to the relegation zone for the first time this campaign, with Leeds losing five of their last six games.
They also have the second-worst goalscoring record, with only bottom-placed Wolves netting fewer this campaign.
Gruelling Schedule Ahead
Leeds have arguably the most difficult run of Premier League tests in their next three games, facing Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool.
Farke’s side were on the losing side in their last three games, with their last victory coming in October, a 2-1 home win over West Ham.
