Leeds United are already preparing for a crucial summer after successfully securing survival in their first season back in the Premier League, with several important decisions now looming behind the scenes.
The club’s priority remains the future of manager Daniel Farke after contract discussions were paused until the end of the campaign. Leeds are also facing uncertainty over several key first-team players, with Karl Darlow out of contract next month while Ethan Ampadu and Pascal Struijk enter the final year of their current deals.
Ampadu, in particular, has attracted growing attention following an outstanding season at Elland Road. The Wales international was a consistent presence throughout Leeds’ campaign and played a major role in helping the club establish themselves back in the top flight.
His performances have not gone unnoticed, with a number of Premier League clubs reportedly monitoring his situation ahead of the transfer window. Former Aston Villa striker Stan Collymore believes Villa should seriously consider making a move for the versatile midfielder this summer.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Collymore described Ampadu as “fantastic” and suggested he would perfectly suit Aston Villa’s recruitment strategy under the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
“If Villa are knocking around, he will be the perfect Aston Villa player profile in the PSR era,” Collymore explained.
“They can’t buy players for £60million or £70million and need to be more diligent.”
Collymore then jokingly addressed Leeds supporters directly by adding: “Not trying to buy your player, Leeds United, but if you are selling, we will take him from you.”
With Emery looking to strengthen his squad ahead of another demanding campaign, Ampadu’s versatility, leadership and Premier League experience could make him an attractive option for Villa this summer as speculation continues building around his future.
